Union County utilizes the Code RED Mass Emergency Notification System
“Code RED enables us to initiate a mass calling of a selected area or the entire county with a single recorded message informing residents of action steps they should take in the event of an emergency,” said Union County Emergency Communications Director Larry Brinker.
All individuals and businesses should log onto the “Code RED Community Notification Enrollment” page. No one should automatically assume his or her phone number is included.
The Union County Department of Emergency Communications (C-COM) is the primary 9-1-1 public safety answering point for Union County.
C-COM receives all requests for assistance in emergent and non-emergent situations and notifies or dispatches the proper agency/agencies. Some agencies C-COM serves are the Union County Sheriff’s Department, Monroe City Police Department, Waxhaw, Marshville, Wingate, and Stallings Police Departments. Also included are Union EMS, Monroe City Fire/First Responders, eighteen county Volunteer Fire Departments/First Responders, and Union County Emergency Management, Public Works, and Union County Animal Control. C-COM also answers the after hours lines for Mental Health, Rape Crisis, and Hospice.
This is an enhanced 9-1-1 operation and operates in conjunction with National Academy of Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD). This system allows the Telecommunicators to relay vital information to the caller including what to do until the ambulance and/or fire department arrives. The EMD system also provides priority dispatching for EMS and First Responders.
