Low Income Energy Assistance Program Information - LIEAP gives families a one-time cash payment to help pay their heating expense.  You do not have to be a Food & Nutrition Services recipient in order to apply for or receive a LIEAP check.  However, if you are a FNS recipient, on September 30th each year, the State sends a letter regarding LIEAP eligibility based on FNS information.  Some FNS recipients are automatically approved for LIEAP & some are screened out for various reasons.  If the letter states you are automatically approved, you will receive a LIEAP check in February & you do not need to come in to apply.  If your letter states you were screened out, you must come to DSS to apply or have someone who knows your situation come in to apply for you.  We are available to take LIEAP applications Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm from November 2nd thru November 13th.  Our office will be closed on Wednesday, November 11th in honor of Veteran's Day.
