The mission of the Planning Department is to effectively and efficiently administer the policies of the Board of County Commissioners regarding long-range (future direction of growth and facilities) and current planning (standards for growth as embodied in growth management ordinances).

Focus:

1. Implementation of the Union County Land Use Plan through the update of the Land Use Ordinance and development of a countywide thoroughfare plan.
2. Monitor federal, state, and regional and other local laws that impact land use/development and transportation planning.
3. Continue efficient day-to-day services through subdivision/site plan review, rezoning processing, addressing/road naming, and general inquiries of land use and transportation plans.
4. Administrative land use process for towns that accept county's ordinances

Concerns, Trends and Issues:

1. Many issues and concerns have been addressed in the Land Use Plan update. New issues are sure to arise out of the update of the Land Use Ordinance.
2. New areas are to incorporate which will lead to the need to increase coordination of transportation and land development.
