The Union County Board of Commissioners established the Emergency Communications Department and operations began in November 1981.
This department serves as the warning point for Union County, receiving all requests for assistance in emergency situations and dispatching the proper agency. Communications dispatches for the Sheriff's Office, Police, Ambulance, Fire/First Responders and Emergency Management; as well as being the after hours contact for the American Red Cross, Department of Social Services, Mental Health, Hospice, Animal Control and Public Works. The department operates 24 hours a day with certified operators on duty. This is an enhanced 9-1-1 operation.
For non-English speaking callers, Communications connects them with the AT&T Language Line which has interpreters available 24 hours a day. For hearing impaired callers, a TDD service is available.
