What We Do
The Union County Emergency Management Department facilitates the process of emergency preparedness and planning for the community, working with departments, support agencies, municipalities, the military, businesses and industry as well as citizens to build, sustain and improve the capability to prepare for, protect against, respond to,recover from or mitigate against threatened or actual natural disasters, acts of terrorism or other man-made disasters. This is accomplished by identifying the community's hazards, identifying resources and capabilities, conducting preparedness briefs and by developing and exercising emergency operations plans.
Union County Emergency Management coordinates disaster response during an emergency from its Emergency Operations Center (EOC). From this central location, staff members are able to coordinate law enforcement, fire, and emergency medical services personnel as well as support agencies to provide assistance to those parts of our community that need it.
During an emergency, the EOC is usually staffed around the clock to provide this coordination and handle various requests for assistance.
To assist residents during an emergency, telephones are set-up in the EOC to handle requests for special assistance, receive reports of property damage, power outages and street blockings or closings. If you are in need of assistance with any of these items during an emergency, you should call 704-289-1591.
Union County Emergency Management in cooperation with the American Red Cross and Union County Human Services can also open emergency shelters when disasters force citizens to evacuate.
