Class Raises Money for K-9 Ballistic Vest

Posted on 06/16/15

June 16, 2015, Monroe, NC – Mrs. Michelle VanGaasbeck’s Sun Valley High School Civics class, lead by Senior Kiersten Moore, presented a $500 check to Sgt. Brian Griffin of the Union County Sheriff’s Office for the purchase of a K-9 ballistic vest.

Kierston became interested in helping the Sheriff’s Office buy K-9 vests after hearing about a police K-9 that died in Asheville.

Attending the check presentation with Sgt. Griffin and his K-9 bloodhound, Ruby, were Deputy Sheriff Jonathan Presson and his K-9, Atos. Atos will be the recipient of the vest. Sgt. Chad Coppedge of the Community Services Bureau and Deputy Joe Whitley, Sun Valley’s School Resource Officer, were also in attendance.

Donations are still being accepted to purchase additional vests. If you would like to help, send donations to Kierston Moore at P.O. Box 1650, Indian Trail, N.C. 28079.
