County Honored for Popular Annual Financial Reporting

Posted on 05/05/15

May 5, 2015 Monroe, NC – The Award for Outstanding Achievement in Popular Annual Financial Reporting has been awarded to Union County’s Finance Division by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for its 2014 Popular Annual Financial Report (PAFR).

The Award for Outstanding Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.

The PAFR can only be awarded after the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting has been given to the Government entity for the same year. Union County was awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting in March. The PAFR has been judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program including demonstrating creativity, reader appeal, understandability and distribution of the information presented. With the receipt of the PAFR award, Union County becomes one of only four governmental entities in North Carolina that have received all three GFOA awards in the same year.

The GFOA is a nonprofit professional association serving approximately 17,500 government finance professionals with offices in Chicago, IL and Washington, D.C.
