April 23, 2015, Monroe, NC - O’Neil Digital Solutions, LLC (www.oneildata.com) announced today that they will invest approximately $140 million in building improvements and new equipment at a facility in Monroe, North Carolina over the next 10 years ($90.7 million in the first five years).
The company was founded in 1973 by William J. O’Neil in order to produce investment research publications and in the process, pioneered the field of automated composition and database publishing using state-of-the-art computer technology. Since that time, O’Neil has grown into a national provider of publishing and marketing communication services for major US organizations.
O’Neil services many industry sectors including healthcare, financial, publishing, retail, entertainment, and automotive. They also have web-to-print services, data management systems and print management from layout and production to warehousing and fulfillment.
The Union County Board of Commissioners demonstrated its commitment to this project by awarding a “Modified STEP 4” economic development incentive grant not to exceed $1,960,000 in total, paid over a ten-year period on Monday, April 20. The Monroe City Council also awarded a similar grant in an amount not to exceed $1,430,000 at their regular meeting Tuesday evening.
“O'Neil is very excited to expand our operations to North Carolina,” stated Jim Lucanish, President of O'Neil Digital Solutions. “We can feel the positive energy and vibrancy of the Charlotte region, while Union County has clearly demonstrated it has the best workforce to ensure our company's success.”
O’Neil is seeking to acquire the SAFRAN Turbomeca facility located in the Monroe Corporate Center and adding to the growing diversity of industries served by the park. O’Neil joins another new member of the industrial park - Glenmark Generics, an India based pharmaceutical company, that is currently up fitting the Monroe Spec Building #3 and investing approximately $27 million in new capital investment. Also, Scott Safety announced in January their $28 million expansion at their facility in the Monroe Corporate Center. Since July of last year, Union County has announced more than $220 million in new capital investment and nearly 550 new jobs.
“O’Neil Digital Solutions is a huge win for our community,” said Chris Plate, executive director of Monroe-Union County Economic Development. “It adds further diversity and brings another company paying significant wages to improve our overall community. Much of the success our community has experienced over the past 18 months is a direct result of Union County’s and Monroe’s leadership deciding to form a unified economic development organization that can serve all of Union County with one voice.”
O’Neil Digital Solutions, known as LONESTAR, originated as a lead from the Charlotte Regional Partnership and Bob Wheeler of C&T Realty (Buyer Agent for O’Neil). The City of Monroe and Union County received significant assistance from the NC Department of Commerce, the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina and the NC Community College System to successful secure this project.
