Renowned Historian to Speak at Union County Library

Posted on 09/19/19

Union County Public Library, in partnership with the North Carolina Humanities Council, will welcome renowned historian and author Kevin Duffus to discuss the life of the world’s most famous pirate.

Duffus has spent years researching the history of Edward Teach, better known as Blackbeard. Duffus has learned most historical accounts of the pirate’s last days are inaccurate.

On September 21 at 2:00pm at the Monroe library location, the community is invited to hear Duffus discuss who Blackbeard was, where he came from, and the last days of his life off the coast of North Carolina.

In studying Blackbeard, Duffus has conducted extensive research at the archives of Great Britain, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and South Carolina. Through his research, Duffus has found new information about Blackbeard’s last days that promise to substantially change his story and history.

For more information about the event on September 21, see the library’s monthly program guide. The presentation is made possible by funding from the North Carolina Humanities Council, a statewide nonprofit and affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities.
