Residents to Vote on Sale of Certain Types of Alcohol

April 21, 2015, Monroe, NC – The Union County Board of Commissioners on Monday passed a resolution requesting the Union County Board of Elections hold an election to determine whether the sale of malt beverages and sale of unfortified wine should be permitted throughout Union County.

N.C.G.S. § 18B-600 allows a county to hold elections for permitting the countywide sale of malt beverages, unfortified wine, and mixed beverages, and for permitting the countywide operation of ABC stores. The statute allows for a county board of elections to hold such an election upon receipt of a written request from the governing body of the county.

The election will include the following propositions:

  • To permit the “on premises” and “off-premises” sale of malt beverages.
    [ ] FOR
    [ ] AGAINST
  • To permit the “on-premises” and “off-premises” sale of unfortified wine.
    [ ] FOR
    [ ] AGAINST


The Union County Board of Commissioners requests that the Union County Board of Elections hold the election at the first opportunity in 2016.
