67 additional jobs to Union County

Scott Safety, a TYCO business, (TYCO International is headquartered in Ireland) announced today that they will invest approximately $28.7 million in a building expansion and new equipment at their facility in Monroe, North Carolina. This investment will help retain the current 515 jobs and is expected to create 67 additional over the next five years.

The Union County Board of Commissioners demonstrated its commitment to competing for the project by awarding a “STEP 3” economic development incentive grant not to exceed $451,500 in total, paid over a five-year period at its December 15, 2014 regular meeting. The Monroe City Council also awarded a similar grant in an amount not to exceed $466,200 at a special called meeting on the same day.

“Scott Safety has a long history in North Carolina and over that time we have enjoyed amazing support from the community around us,” said Andrew Chrostowski, President, Scott Safety. “As we continue to grow and expand our capabilities over the coming years this investment will assist us in positioning ourselves as a global safety leader.”

Scott Safety, located in Union County within the City of Monroe since the 1950’s, currently manufactures life safety equipment for use by firefighters, industrial and military first responders. Their best known product is the Scott Safety Air-Pak SCBA which is the dominant industry-leader in selfcontained breathing apparatus among firefighters across the Americas.

“We are pleased that Scott has continued to demonstrate their confidence in Union County by choosing to expand their operations. This expansion will bring more of their corporate family to a community that nurtures our families and community partners by providing a safe, educated and well-rounded community,” said Richard B. Helms Sr., Chairman of the Union County Board of Commissioners. “Thank you to Scott for their vote of confidence in Union County. We look forward to a continued, strong partnership with the company.”
“Monroe is blessed to have so many companies with a strong commitment to the City and the surrounding community. Scott Safety is one of the best examples of that corporate leadership,” stated Bobby G. Kilgore, Mayor of Monroe. “Our City’s focus on economic development and attention to the existing industries played a major role in Scott’s decision to expand their operations in Monroe.”
